Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most popular and visually striking parks centred on the shallow alkaline Lake Nakuru in the Rift Valley. The park first gained international fame for the millions of flamingos that once created a solid pink ring around the lake — while flamingo numbers have fluctuated in recent years due to changing water levels the spectacle remains impressive when conditions are right. Beyond the flamingos the compact 188 square kilometre park is an important rhino sanctuary supporting both black and white rhino in a fully fenced environment. The park’s diverse habitats from lakeside mudflats through acacia woodland to rocky escarpment support a rich variety of wildlife including lion, leopard, buffalo, and Rothschild’s giraffe — an endangered subspecies. Waterbuck are abundant and the park is one of the most reliable locations in Kenya for python sightings. Lake Nakuru makes an excellent addition to any Rift Valley safari circuit.
