Laikipia Plateau

The Laikipia Plateau is a vast elevated region of central Kenya that has quietly become the country’s most important wildlife area after the Masai Mara. Unlike traditional parks Laikipia is a mosaic of private ranches, community conservancies, and group ranches that collectively support the second-largest elephant population in Kenya and the country’s highest density of large predators. The plateau is the stronghold for endangered species including black rhino, Grevy’s zebra, wild dog, and Jackson’s hartebeest. Safari experiences in Laikipia are remarkably diverse ranging from horseback riding and camel-supported walking safaris to traditional game drives and cultural visits to Samburu and Laikipia Maasai communities.
