Overview
A high-end journey through Kenya’s wild north and its most famous savannah. It begins at Saruni Samburu, the only lodge in the Kalama Conservancy, set in rocky hills above Samburu National Reserve, where the ‘Samburu Special Five’ (Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa oryx) live alongside elephant and leopard.
Sirikoi, a small and beautifully finished lodge in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, follows. Lewa protects more than a tenth of Kenya’s remaining black rhino, and the days mix drives with walks, riding and visits to community projects. The journey ends at Saruni Mara in a secluded valley of the Mara North Conservancy, one of the Maasai Mara Conservancies, with game drives reaching into the Masai Mara National Reserve.
All three lodges are fully inclusive, so drinks, meals and most activities are taken care of. Hot-air balloon flights and helicopter excursions can be added.
Who it suits
Travellers who have done a classic safari and want Kenya’s quieter north with the Mara as a finale, and families: Saruni’s Warriors Academy gives children a hands-on introduction to bush skills.
