Moremi Game Reserve is one of Africa’s most beautiful and productive game reserves occupying approximately one-third of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Established in 1963 through the initiative of the Batawana people it was the first reserve in Africa created by local residents to protect their wildlife heritage. Moremi’s unique position at the interface of the Okavango’s permanent swamp and dry land creates an extraordinary diversity of habitats and wildlife. The reserve supports all of Botswana’s major predators including exceptional concentrations of wild dog, lion, leopard, and cheetah alongside large herds of elephant and buffalo. Chief’s Island at the heart of the reserve is one of the most exclusive safari destinations in Africa accessible only by air or mokoro. The combination of water-based and land-based safari activities makes Moremi one of the most varied wildlife destinations on the continent.
