Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area and home to one of the most dramatic natural spectacles in Africa. Here the entire volume of the Nile River is forced through a gap just seven metres wide before plunging 43 metres into the pool below known as the Devil’s Cauldron. The park spans both banks of the Victoria Nile and covers 3840 square kilometres of rolling savanna, riverine forest, and woodland. Game drives on the northern bank offer excellent sightings of lion, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe while the Nile boat safari from Paraa to the base of the falls is one of the great wildlife experiences in Africa — passing massive concentrations of hippo, Nile crocodile, and waterbirds. Chimpanzee tracking is available in the Budongo Forest on the park’s southern boundary adding a primate dimension to the savanna safari.
