Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most visited national park and one of the most diverse protected areas in Africa. Spanning 1978 square kilometres across the western rift valley floor, the park encompasses savanna, wetlands, crater lakes, and tropical forest. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector — one of only two places in Africa where lions routinely rest in fig trees. The Kazinga Channel connecting Lake Edward and Lake George provides one of Africa’s best boat safari experiences with enormous concentrations of hippo and buffalo along the banks. Over 600 bird species have been recorded making it one of the richest birding destinations on the continent. The Kyambura Gorge offers chimpanzee tracking in a dramatic forest-filled rift while the crater lakes region provides stunning scenic beauty.
