Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in Africa. This ancient montane forest in southwestern Uganda harbours approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas — around 459 individuals in habituated and unhabituated groups. Gorilla tracking here is a profound wildlife experience as visitors trek through dense undergrowth and steep terrain to spend one precious hour with a gorilla family. Beyond gorillas Bwindi supports an extraordinary 350 bird species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics making it one of Africa’s premier birding destinations. The forest also shelters 120 mammal species including chimpanzees, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and giant forest hogs. Multiple trailheads at Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo offer different gorilla groups and varying trek difficulties.
