Waza National Park is the premier wildlife destination in Cameroon and one of the most significant savanna parks in Central-West Africa. Located in the far north of the country near the Nigerian and Chadian borders the park covers 1700 square kilometres of Sudano-Sahelian savanna and seasonal floodplain. During the dry season from November to May wildlife concentrates around the remaining water sources creating excellent game viewing opportunities. Waza supports healthy populations of elephant, giraffe, lion, and a variety of antelope including roan, hartebeest, and kob alongside over 370 bird species. The park is particularly important for its population of Kordofan giraffe — a highly endangered subspecies found only in this region. Waza offers an authentic and uncrowded safari experience far removed from the well-trodden circuits of East and Southern Africa. The nearby Rhumsiki village in the Mandara Mountains provides a stunning cultural complement to the wildlife experience.
