Mkhaya Game Reserve is Eswatini’s premier wildlife conservation area and one of the best places in Southern Africa to see the critically endangered black rhino. The reserve was established specifically to protect endangered species and its name — meaning place of the knothorn — reflects the dense bushveld that provides ideal rhino habitat. Access to Mkhaya is strictly controlled with visitors escorted into the reserve from a designated meeting point ensuring minimum disturbance to the wildlife. The reserve supports black and white rhino, elephant, buffalo, sable, tsessebe, and nyala in a compact but intensely managed wilderness. The stone and thatch camp at the heart of the reserve offers a rustic and intimate safari experience with open-vehicle game drives and guided walks led by expert rangers. Mkhaya represents conservation at its most focused — every aspect of the operation is designed around protecting the wildlife that calls it home.
