Pendjari National Park is the crown jewel of West African conservation and one of the last remaining refuges for the critically endangered West African lion. Located in northwestern Benin along the Atakora mountain range the park covers 2755 square kilometres of Sudanese savanna and gallery forest. Under the management of African Parks since 2017 Pendjari has undergone a remarkable transformation with enhanced anti-poaching operations and infrastructure improvements. The park supports healthy populations of elephant, buffalo, hippo, and a variety of antelope alongside its flagship lion and cheetah. Pendjari is part of the larger W-Arly-Pendjari complex — a UNESCO-designated transboundary biosphere reserve spanning Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Safari here offers a genuinely pioneering experience far removed from the well-trodden circuits of East and Southern Africa with the satisfaction of supporting frontline conservation.
