Etosha National Park is Namibia’s flagship safari destination and one of Southern Africa’s greatest game reserves. The park is dominated by the enormous Etosha Pan — a shimmering salt flat covering nearly 5000 square kilometres that is visible from space. During the dry season from May to October wildlife congregates around the permanent waterholes dotting the pan’s edge creating spectacular and predictable game viewing. Etosha is home to the largest population of black rhino in any African national park alongside lion, leopard, elephant, and a host of endemic and rare species including black-faced impala. The park’s waterhole-based game viewing is unique — many rest camps have floodlit waterholes where guests can watch nocturnal wildlife activity from comfortable seating. Self-drive safari is excellent with well-maintained gravel roads connecting a network of camps and waterholes.
