Chobe National Park is Botswana’s oldest and most accessible national park, famous for its staggering elephant population estimated at over 50000 — the highest concentration of elephants anywhere on the continent. The park covers 11700 square kilometres of diverse habitat from the lush Chobe riverfront in the north to the arid Savuti marsh and the remote Linyanti concession in the west. The Chobe River frontage offers superb boat-based safari with elephants swimming across the channel, hippo pods, and huge herds of buffalo. Savuti is legendary for its predator action with lion prides known for taking down young elephants. The park is easily accessible from Kasane and can be combined with day trips to Victoria Falls making it an essential component of any Southern African safari itinerary.
